Friday Craft, SSS March Card Kit

Going back in time a bit with this post to show off my cards from March’s Simon Says Stamp Card kit. This one was Easter themed, with three sizes of 3D Peep bunnies in the stamp set, spring and easter themed paper pack, and two printed panels for watercoloring. These cards were heavily inspired by Vicky Papiaonnou, who has been making a video for each card kit demonstrating 10 cards made with each month’s kit.

With this kit I am coming to the realization that I don’t like stamping images with my Distress inks, as they don’t leave the best impressions (check out my bunny Peeps below). What is your favorite ink, dear reader?

This card is pretty much an exact copy of the technique Vicky used in her video. For this card I used my Peerless watercolors to paint and my Distress ink to stamp the sentiment “Hoppy Easter”.

The card below is another example of Distress ink perhaps not being the best ink for stamping. The sentiment bled out a bit, but I still like the simplicity of this one.

I especially like these card kits as they force me out of my comfort zone, I would never buy an Easter themed stamp set or paper pad. YouTube is filled with inspiration videos for using each kit.

Friday Craft, Watercolor Love

I am having a great time watercoloring with my Tim Holtz Distress inks. I may have participated in the recent online sale at Joann.com and purchased some additional colors and a couple of storage tins to hold all my tiny ink pads. Now I have them arranged by color family and ready to go.

Recently I also started receiving the monthly card kit from Simon Says Stamp, beginning with the February kit. It is, of course, Valentine’s Day themed, and includes a stamp set, a small paper pad, heart shaped embellishments and card stock to use for card bases.

Everything on these cards with the exception of the little wood frame on the left most card came from the kit.

So many card makers get this kit and make videos for their YouTube channels, so there’s a ton of inspiration out there. I haven’t made cards in a great long while, perhaps over a year, so this was a great way to get my feet wet. I’ve also been using my watercolor obsession for some cards.

I think I’ve had these floral stamps for over 10 years. I stamped them on watercolor paper with VersaMark ink and then embossed them to create a resist.

For the orchid, I think there’s too much detail in too little space for this technique to really work well. That said, I still think they turned out beautifully.

And finally, the simplest card of the bunch. For this card, I stamped two of the images from the set included in my February kit. I used masking fluid to fill in the little heart, then taped the panel down to a piece of chipboard.

I smooshed some ink from three ink pads onto a piece of plastic (spun sugar, picked raspberries and worn lipstick) and sprayed the ink with water. Then I smooshed the panel around in the color and allowed it to dry. When I peeled off the blue tape I got a great border around the color, and adhered it to the card base with this striped background.

So. Much. Fun.

I hope you have a lovely love day.

Friday Craft, Bazaar Time

It’s beginning to look a lot like Holiday Bazaar time ~ this weekend I’ll be showing my wares at a local Holiday Bazaar with my helper KidMakes, wish us luck!

To prepare for the rush of customers clamoring for my products (positive thinking) I have opened a new online shop using Tictail. I closed my Etsy show quite awhile ago and have decided to try out this vendor.  My new shop is available at this link, or if you click on Shop in the top menu. I’ve got a few pieces listed, more to come after the show this weekend.

Friday Craft, Crushing Pendant

My work friend gifted me with this pendant over the holidays, made from an old Star Trek magazine. Pardon the poor photo quality but I had to share.

Wesley Crusher pendantI know, right? Dreamy Wesley Crusher. This tells you a lot about my age and how old I was when Star Trek: The Next Generation was A Thing.

I still have a soft spot in my heart for Wil Wheaton. My aging, mid-life heart. And I’m sorry but Picard is by far the best Captain, followed closely by Janeway. That’s just the truth people.
